Soldiers Hill, Ballarat
Nestled in the historic suburb of Soldiers Hill, Ballarat, this kitchen beautifully fuses rustic warmth with tailored, contemporary functionality.
The Design Process: To honor the home’s regional Victorian character while maximising utility, we replaced the cramped original footprint with a sophisticated galley layout. The primary challenge was integrating modern storage into a limited space without sacrificing the aesthetic. We overcame this by designing bespoke solid timber joinery, featuring a meticulous rubbed-back lime wash finish that celebrates the natural beauty of the wood grain.
The Functional Outcome: We prioritized effortless usability by integrating the Blum Legrabox drawer system. These precision-engineered drawers provide whisper-quiet motion and superior stability for heavy storage. To further enhance flow, we incorporated open pull-out crate shelving for immediate access and an integrated under-sink waste sorting system, keeping the workspace clutter-free. The textured timber is anchored by a premium, hard-wearing stone benchtop, resulting in a highly personalized, hardworking heart of the home that honors its history while serving modern life.
To balance the warmth of the natural timber, we introduced carefully curated statement features. A bold, patterned tile splashback serves as the kitchen’s visual centerpiece, injecting personality and a nod to artisan craftsmanship. Complementing this is a bespoke, wall-mounted hanging pot rack, which keeps essential cookware within arm’s reach while reinforcing the home's relaxed, functional atmosphere. Every element—from the choice of hardware to the layout—was considered to ensure the kitchen feels both timeless and deeply personal, successfully bridging the gap between historical charm and modern-day living.
